I am trying to use different colors than what I normally do. This makes me think of a change of season.
Still making marks in a round motion and trying to use some different colors. This is 12x12inches, but I am working on some larger pieces that are similar.
This 24x24inch acrylic painting was done along with the last one "On the Edge" and works with it as a pair. The two paintings consist of a lot of mark making and automatic drawing, then covering up. The process continues until I feel the painting is done.
A 24x24inch acrylic on canvas painting done with the "without thinking" method. Just following instinct and moving back and forth, away from and then up close, this kind of painting really accesses your inner self. After doing this I realized that this represents "living on the edge" to me, and I feel I am doing that with my new non-objective work.
Last weekend at a workshop with Steve Aimone we were challenged to paint without any painting tools. What fun to pick up paint with wax paper in hand and plop it on the paper! It definitely makes the use of the paint thicker, and I resisted smearing paint together, leaving mostly pure thick color. Sometimes we just need to try something new!
I have been painting for many years in several different media and have won awards in juried shows and had one-woman and small group shows. The learning aspect of painting has been a great joy and driving force for me. For the past few years I have become interested in abstract work and have been studying how to understand abstract work and how to do it.
